ESC Partner Programs
2024 EESW

A Preconference Event of the Engagement Scholarship Consortium Annual Conference

This intensive professional development program provides advanced doctoral students and early career faculty with background literature, dialogue, mentoring, and workshops designed to increase their knowledge and enhance their practice of community-engaged scholarship. Participation in the Emerging Engagement Scholars Workshop (EESW) is limited. Interested participants must apply and be nominated to be considered for the EESW.

This year's EESW will take place on Monday, October 7 and Tuesday, October 8, 2024, immediately before the Engagement Scholarship Consortium conference in Portland, OR. The theme of this year's conference is "Pathways to Prosperity: Building Sustainable Futures through Community Engagement".

Applicants should be:

  • Ph.D. students, Extension and academic staff, or early career faculty members with an interest in community engaged-research or practitioner
  • Involved in research or scholarly engagement projects that contribute to their discipline while making a positive impact on individuals, organizations, or communities external to college and university campuses

Applicants must also demonstrate:

  • A desire for new learning about community-engaged scholarship or practice
  • An interest in interdisciplinary learning with and from faculty, community partners, and peers about how community-engaged scholarship might be carried out respectfully and ethically
  • The capacity to effectively communicate the results of their research to public, academic, and other external audiences.

Successful applicants will be expected to come to the workshop with an idea for a community-engaged scholarship project in mind. These projects will be discussed in the context of what is presented during EESW. Participants are expected to participate fully in all EESW program activities and attend the larger Engagement Scholarship Consortium conference.

Upon acceptance, participants will be asked to pay a $200 registration fee for the Emerging Engagement Scholars Workshop, in exchange for which they will be provided with admission to all sessions, materials, and meals during the Workshop, as well as free registration to the Engagement Scholarship Consortium conference. Participants are expected to pay for their own travel and lodging. (Please note: The $200 registration fee should not accompany your application. Successful applicants will be notified and provided with payment instructions.)
