Plenary Session 2: Translational Science and the Diffusion of Innovation

As a result of the current economic downturn, there has been considerable interest in how universities may contribute to improving the economic health of nations, regions, and neighborhoods. A panel of university leaders will share its insights into the importance of leveraging university-based research findings and products in support of the public good, with a particular focus on economic development. Models for thinking about the role of universities in regional economies and community prosperity will be discussed and examples of institutions attempting to actively address these matters will be explored.
