This intensive professional development program provides advanced doctoral students and early career faculty with background literature, facilitated discussion, mentoring, and presentations designed to increase their knowledge and enhance their practice of community engaged scholarship. Participation in the Emerging Engagement Scholars Workshop (EESW) is limited and interested applicants must be nominated to be considered for this workshop.

Outreach and Engagement Practitioners Network (OEPN)
September 24-25, 2017
This year’s session will offer participants the opportunity to delve deeper into the role of the professional boundary spanner, challenging each individual to push themselves to identify at least one new or additional way to be impactful. Participants will have access to critical, timely knowledge from key leaders from national organizations allied in the pursuit of furthering community engagement, outreach, and scholarship.
As with all years, we will also have the opportunity to continue to strengthen our network and make strides toward our goal of becoming an effective community of practice.

Pre-College Programming Workshop

The 3rd National Pre College and Youth Programming workshop will take place during the Engagement Scholarship Consortium pre conference sessions. Postsecondary institutions serve a valuable role in communities, not only by educating college students but also by providing a wide range of youth programming and access to universities. This workshop will explore ways in which universities and institutions, through youth programs, have had an impact on student decisions to enroll in postsecondary programs.
Who Should Attend
- Postsecondary education administrators, faculty, staff and graduate students
- Program Directors and Coordinators (GEAR UP, Upward Bound, Trios and alike programs)
- K-12 teachers, counselors and administrators
- Community representatives interested in the role of pre-college and youth development programs
- Model Standards for Pre-College Program Divisions
- As pre-college program offices at colleges and universities grow and develop, a model set of standards should exist to ensure best practices are being implemented. This session will introduce a newly-created set of 24 standards (referred to as “Dimensions”) that have been developed and beta tested.
- In this interactive session, participants will offer input and perspective about the model and attendees will leave with an understanding of the standards, how to implement new or improve current practices and how to conduct a self-assessment upon returning to their campuses.

About the Workshop
This workshop will provide insight and information about accessing resources, building networks, and utilizing best practices in evaluations, through exploration of successful programs across the United States. Throughout the day we will take an in-depth look at goals for pre-college programs, and their place in a university and community.
