Burton Bargerstock

Burton Bargerstock is executive director of the Office for Public Engagement and Scholarship, director of UOE Communication and Information Technology, and special advisor to the vice provost for University Outreach and Engagement, Michigan State University. His work focuses on institutional research, communication, culture, and technologies related to community-engaged scholarship and university outreach. He leads MSU's Outreach and Engagement Measurement Instrument and Spartan Public Engagement Map projects. He is an associate editor of the Journal of Higher Education Outreach and Engagement, the senior editor of the Transformations in Higher Education: The Scholarship of Engagement book series, and is also a former section co-editor of the International Journal of Research on Service-learning and Community Engagement. Having participated in the founding of the Academy of Community Engagement Scholarship, Bargerstock was inducted in 2017 and served as the Academy's president 2017-2024. He previously served as a chairperson and member of the board of directors of the International Association for Research on Service-Learning and Community Engagement, member of the board of directors of the University Professional and Continuing Education Association, executive committee member of the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities' Council on Engagement and Outreach, and has also been a long-time member of EDUCAUSE. He chaired the Engagement Scholarship Consortium's international conference in 2011 and 2023 and remains active with the organization.
