The Engaged University Today
Graham B. Spanier, President, The Pennsylvania
State University
Five years after the seminal report Returning to
Our Roots: The Engaged Institution was published,
this panel will reconsider assessing the impact of the
recommendations in this report sponsored by the Kellogg
Commission on the Future of State and Land-Grant Universities.
How far have we come toward the vision of the engaged
institution? What are institutions doing to implement
the vision both organizationally and programmatically?
Can universities maintain a dynamic engagement agenda
in light of shifting public support? What are the major
challenges impacting the achievement of the engaged
institution?
