Convergences: Higher Education, Scholarly Communication,
and Public Broadcasting
Presider Michael F. Adams, President,
University of Georgia
Clifford A. Lynch, Executive Director,
Coalition for Networked Information, and member of the
National Digital Preservation Strategy Advisory Board
of the Library of Congress
The higher education community has historically both
authored and subsequently managed the vast majority
of the scholarly record. Research libraries have taken
broader responsibility for the stewardship of our intellectual
and cultural record, which also serves as the raw material
for future scholarship. As the possibilities for public
broadcasters change with the availability of high-performance
networks, digital content, and massive online storage,
new alliances and interdependencies become both feasible
and indeed necessary to meet the ongoing missions of
all three sectors.
