Outreach and Engagement Practitioners Workshop

2016 Preconference

October 9-10, 2016
Omaha, Nebraska

The Outreach and Engagement Practitioners Network (OEPN) preconference (formerly Outreach and Engagement Staff Workshop) will be held on Sunday, October 9th from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. and Monday, October 10th from 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (with a cocktail reception to follow) at the University of Nebraska - Omaha.

2016 Theme

“Elevating Community Voices through Meaningful and Impactful Practices”

Monday Keynote

"Performance as a Tool for Supporting Community Voices"

Through an example of innovative community engagement, community voices may be lifted and impact achieved. Associate Professor Beth Osnes from the University of Colorado Boulder will share her work with the Navajo Women's Energy Project - an inspirational approach using theatre-based tools to help community members empower their voices for positive social change and to increase creative public discourse on issues of concern identified by the community.

Who Should Attend

The OEPN preconference workshop is designed for university staff, non-tenure-track faculty, and community partners who facilitate, manage, direct, and administrate ongoing projects, programs, services, research, and relationships between institutions of higher education and community partners. These professionals span the boundaries between campus and communities and have an emerging professional identity and a unique set of strengths and challenges that will be addressed in this workshop. Because of the overlap in roles, skills, and values, all "boundary spanners" who facilitate community-university partnerships are welcome and encouraged to attend.
